v   Social Function / Purpose (Tujuan) :

To retell events for the purpose of informing (menceritakan kembali peristiwa atau pengalaman seseorang untuk memberi informasi atau menghibur)

v   Generic / Schematic Structure (Urutan Kejadian/ Pembahasan):

ü  Orientation : provides the setting and introduces participants (pembuka atau pendahuluan= pengenalan tokoh, tempat, waktu)

ü  Events : tell what happened, in what sequence ( menceritakan apa yang terjadi dan dalam keadaan bagaimana sesuatu itu terjadi / rangkaian kejadian)

ü  Re-Orientation : closure of events (penutupan/ akhir cerita)=Optional

Ø  Note: a text may consist of more than one events

v   Linguistic Features ( Struktur/ Susunan Kebahasaan yang digunakan) :

ü  Focus on specific participants (fokus pada seseorang  tertentu)

ü  Use of material processes ( menggunakan kata kerja aktif)

ü  Circumstances of time and place ( menggunakan keterangan waktu dan tempat)

ü  Use of Past Tenses (menggunakan pola kalimat lampau)

ü  Focus on temporal sequences (then, after that, before, . . .)

v   Example :

Dear Dewi,

        On Saturday I went  to Mount Bromo.  I stayed at Nisa and Achmad’s house at Cemara Lawang , Probolinggo. It has a big garden with lotsof colorful flowersand fishpond. (Orientation)

On Sunday  Nisa and I  saw Gunung Batok and went on the scenic ride on horseback. It was  scary. Then we went  to get a closer look at the mountain. We took  pictures of the beautiful sceneries there. (Event 1)

On Monday we went  to the zoo at Wonokromo. We saw cockatoos having a shower. In the afternoon I went home.( Event 2)

It was fun. (Re-Orientation)
